“The Creep Tapes” Review – Peachfuzz Is Back and Weirder Than Ever in New TV Series

Creep and its sequel, Creep 2, introduced an offbeat, darkly funny and deeply weird serial killer who preyed upon videographers, documenting the awkward social dance leading up to their unwitting murder. Co-writer/Director Patrick Brice and co-writer/star Mark Duplass created a memorable new horror villain, one that initially disarmed with boyish charms before ramping up the […] The post “The Creep Tapes” Review – Peachfuzz Is Back and Weirder Than Ever in New TV Series appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘The Severed Sun’ Review – Folk Horror Tale Offers Timeless Message [FF 2024]

Evil comes in many forms. In horror films, it’s often in the form of an inhuman creature or supernatural entity. With folk horror films, however, evil is often personified in people and their actions, seeing the sub-genre interrogate the dark nature of mankind. In The Severed Sun, writer/director Dean Puckett‘s feature debut, a creature may […] The post ‘The Severed Sun’ Review – Folk Horror Tale Offers Timeless Message [FF 2024] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘MadS’ Review – A Single-Take Outbreak Horror Movie from the Director of 2006’s ‘Them’

Director David Moreau knows a thing or two about helming intense horror set over the course of a single evening; the filmmaker previously unnerved with the 2006 home invasion horror Ils (Them). His latest, MadS, takes it a step further with an energetic horror movie presented as a single continuous take tracking a night that […] The post ‘MadS’ Review – A Single-Take Outbreak Horror Movie from the Director of 2006’s ‘Them’ appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Mr. Crocket’ Review – Impressive Effects Can’t Save a Pedestrian Script [FF 2024]

1980s nostalgia is out and 1990s nostalgia is in, with the horror genre doling out films like I Saw the TV Glow (review) and now Mr. Crocket, an adaptation of Brandon Espy’s 2022 short of the same name (itself a part of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween series). Espy’s feature debut sadly sees the filmmaker struggling to find inspiration, […] The post ‘Mr. Crocket’ Review – Impressive Effects Can’t Save a Pedestrian Script [FF 2024] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Daddy’s Head’ Review – An Ultra Creepy, Enigmatic Creature Feature [FF 2024]

Filmmaker Benjamin Barfoot brings the creep factor in Daddy’s Head, an eerie creature feature centered on grief. Set in the immediacy of a sudden, tragic loss, Barfoot’s sophomore feature initially appears to be yet another monster metaphor that draws clear parallels to The Babadook. Luckily, Daddy’s Head forgoes the obvious metaphor for a gnarlier, oblique […] The post ‘Daddy’s Head’ Review – An Ultra Creepy, Enigmatic Creature Feature [FF 2024] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Little Bites’ Review – This Monster Metaphor Needs a Tighter Edit [FF 2024]

Monsters as metaphors are nothing new to the world of fiction, allowing creators to find novel ways to explore the unknown through horror tropes. The genre has seen a surplus of films using this device in the 10 years since Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook was released to critical and commercial success, and we can now add […] The post ‘Little Bites’ Review – This Monster Metaphor Needs a Tighter Edit [FF 2024] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Bone Lake’ Review – Erotic Thriller Goes for the Jugular

Erotic thrillers are a bit of a lost art, enjoying a Golden Age in the ’80s before tapering off in the mid-’90s around the time the genre was parodied in 1993’s Fatal Instinct. By the 2000s, notable entries in the the genre had all but disappeared thanks to its success on the direct-to-video market and […] The post ‘Bone Lake’ Review – Erotic Thriller Goes for the Jugular appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Strange Harvest: Occult Murder in the Inland Empire’ Review – A Grim Faux True Crime Documentary

Writer/Director Stuart Ortiz, one half of the filmmaking duo known as The Vicious Brothers (Grave Encounters, Extraterrestrial), is no stranger to blurring fact and fiction. ‘Don’t Mess With Grandma’ Review – Home Invasion Goes Awry in Violent Comedy [FF 2024]

Home invasion films are a dime a dozen nowadays, with this year alone seeing the wide releases of The Strangers: Chapter One and Abigail.
