‘Dark Glasses’ Review – Dario Argento’s Return Is a Bloody and Sentimental Throwback [Fantasia]

Dario Argento’s latest film Dark Glasses finds the Master of Horror back on (somewhat) solid ground. While Dark Glasses has several classic Giallo elements, in reality, the Italian director has unexpectedly delivered a throwback to the “disabled woman in peril” subgenre that was popular back in the 80s and 90s. Dark Glasses begins in traditional Argento […]

‘The Breach’ Review – A Lovecraftian and Vague House of Horrors [Fantasia]

Beginning with the stomach-churning body horror novel The Troop, author Craig Davidson quickly established himself as a horror author to watch under the pen name Nick Cutter. Adapting the boundary-pushing, gruesome, and often cosmic horror found on Cutter’s pages makes for a tricky and daunting task. Rue Morgue president Rodrigo Gudiño‘s second feature takes on Cutter’s latest, an Audible original […] The post ‘The Breach’ Review – A Lovecraftian and Vague House of Horrors [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Megalomaniac’ Review – Extreme Horror Makes for an Unsettling Conversation Starter [Fantasia]

The Butcher of Mons was a moniker given to a notorious serial killer in Mons, Belgium, who left bags of dismembered women along visible roadsides. As heinously and abruptly as these discoveries began, they ceased in 1997, and the Mons Butcher’s identity remains unknown today. Megalomaniac supposes the atrocious serial killer had offspring that carried […] The post ‘Megalomaniac’ Review – Extreme Horror Makes for an Unsettling Conversation Starter [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Glorious’ Review – Single Location Genre-Bender Descends Into Cosmic Nightmare [Fantasia]

People often seek answers from God in times of strife and anguish. But what would happen if God physically answered? Perhaps the more pertinent question; which God heeded the call? Director Rebekah McKendry’s Glorious frames a single location genre-bender around these questions, creating a darkly comedic and bloody cosmic journey for a man trapped in a restroom. Wes […] The post ‘Glorious’ Review – Single Location Genre-Bender Descends Into Cosmic Nightmare [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Dark Nature’ Review – All-Female Wilderness Thriller Gets Lost in the Woods [Fantasia]

The logline for writer/director Berkley Brady’s directorial feature debut Dark Nature describes it as “the story of a therapy group that is forced to confront the monsters of their past when an isolated weekend retreat tests their emotional resilience and ability to survive.” That’s pretty apt, albeit with one small issue: the Canadian film – […] The post ‘Dark Nature’ Review – All-Female Wilderness Thriller Gets Lost in the Woods [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘The Elderly’ Review – Cryptic Slow Burn Doesn’t Quite Reach a Fever Pitch [Fantasia]

There’s something wrong with senior citizens in The Elderly (Viejos). The record-breaking heat wave has them behaving eerily, and the temperature continues to rise. Filmmakers Raúl Cerezo and Fernando González Gómez, fresh off The Passenger, opt for slow simmering dread in an atmospheric examination of society’s alienation of the elderly. But the restraint and cryptic nature of the horror renders it […] The post ‘The Elderly’ Review – Cryptic Slow Burn Doesn’t Quite Reach a Fever Pitch [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.

‘Final Cut’ Review – ‘One Cut of the Dead’ Remake Isn’t Original, but It Is Funny and Heartfelt [Fantasia]

Remakes of popular films are inevitable, particularly when a film with a unique high concept takes off. It’s hardly surprising, then, that a title like 2017’s One Cut of the Dead, Shin’ichirō Ueda’s horror comedy about a film crew making a horror flick that’s beset by zombies, is already receiving a remake. The original Japanese […] The post ‘Final Cut’ Review – ‘One Cut of the Dead’ Remake Isn’t Original, but It Is Funny and Heartfelt [Fantasia] appeared first on Bloody Disgusting!.
