It was a long time coming, but Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 fans can finally get their hands on Nightdive Studio’s acclaimed System Shock remake. Previously released to PC back in 2023 and PlayStation and Xbox last year, Nintendo gamers can experience the modernized version of this iconic title and own the complete System Shock duology on their Nintendo Switch consoles.
Switch owners can expect a range of features exclusive to the console, including gyro aiming and various community-requested enhancements. Nintendo Switch 2 players can additionally enjoy Joy-Con 2 mouse support, and up to 1440p at 60fps when docked and 1080p at 60fps when handheld.
“To achieve Nightdive’s performance and fidelity targets on Nintendo Switch, we retained deferred rendering to keep our dynamic lighting intact, which is a massive challenge on Nintendo Switch hardware,” said Justin Khan, producer at Nightdive Studios. “We are incredibly proud of the results we’ve delivered and hope the fans feel we’ve earned a spot among other ‘Impossible Ports’ like DOOM 2016, Wolfenstein, and The Witcher 3 on the platform. Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also be very pleased and have an even better experience thanks to high resolution and FPS when docked and in handheld mode.”
The System Shock remake combines the gameplay of the iconic original game with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and all-new sounds and music. The remake includes never-before-seen enemies, quality-of-life gameplay tweaks, a revamped hacking system, and visceral new combat options, including a brutal dismemberment system.
System Shock is available now for $39.99 on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 with cross-buy support for both platforms. You can also pick up the remake on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and the Humble Store, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5, and the Xbox One and Series.
