“Supernatural” Prequel Pilot Casts Young John and Mary Winchester

A “Supernatural” prequel series titled “The Winchesters” is currently in the works, with The CW ordering up a pilot episode earlier this year. Casting is now underway on the pilot.

Variety reports that Meg Donnelly (“American Housewife”) and Drake Rodger (“The In Between”) have been cast as the younger versions of John and Mary Winchester, the duo that the “Supernatural” prequel will center on. The older versions of John and Mary were played on “Supernatural” by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith.

“The Winchesters” will tell the epic story of how Sam and Dean’s parents John and Mary met, “and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.”

Variety details, “Mary is 19 years old and has been fighting the forces of darkness since she was a child. After losing someone close to her, the hardened hunter considers quitting the family business — until her father’s disappearance and the arrival of newcomer John forces her to lead a new team. John has recently returned from Vietnam. Selfless and clear headed, he finds a new mission back home, where traces of his father’s past lead him to a secret organization and a whole new war as a hunter.”

Jensen Ackles will return to narrate the “Supernatural” prequel as Dean Winchester. “Supernatural” exec producer Robbie Thompson is writing and executive producing.

Jensen Ackles is also executive producing the project.
