“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” – Clip Promises That Stage Play Holds Keys to Season Five

“Stranger Things 5″ might mark the official conclusion for the popular Netflix series, but the lore will continue to expand beyond the series. That includes the upcoming stage play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” which may hold clues to the final season, the official series’ Twitter account teased today.

The video unveiled on social media reiterates what we already know: the play will take place prior to the series’ events, set in 1959. What’s new is that the play promises to hold essential clues for the final season. How vital are these clues? That remains to be seen, of course.

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” is said to be a “new story live on stage,” and it’s set in Hawkins, 1959. “The First Shadow” takes place “before the world turned upside down.”

Featuring an original story from “Stranger Things” creators The Duffer Brothers, alongside Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will be directed by Stephen Daldry, and the live stage show is headed to the Phoenix Theatre in London.

Here’s the official plot synopsis…

“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.

“Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.”

“Stranger Things: The First Shadow” isn’t the only series’ expansion in store; Netflix previously announced an animated spinoff in the works.
