Six New Horror Movies Releasing This Week Including ‘Morbius’

A new week brings more new horror movies, with this week’s crop of terrors headlined by Sony’s Morbius, which was originally set for theaters dating all the way back to 2020.

We’re still in the midst of the pandemic, mind you, but the fact that Morbius is finally coming out is a pretty good indicator that we’re at least somewhat getting back to normal.

Here’s all the new horror coming March 29-April 3, 2022.

Based on the classic short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, movie adaptation The Yellow Wallpaper is this week’s first new release, now available on Digital as of today, March 29. The film is said to be a “chilling and boldly original vision of madness.”

“Jane, a writer and young mother, is prescribed a rest treatment by her physician husband John, who takes her to a remote country estate for the summer. She becomes obsessed with the peculiar yellow wallpaper in the bedroom he has chosen for her. In her isolation, she secretly writes about a woman trapped in the wallpaper-that she must free.”

Alexandra Loreth and Kevin Pontuti wrote the movie, which was directed by Pontuti.

Alexandra Loreth, Joe Mullins, Clara Hart, and Jeanne O’Connor star.


On the 3rd Day was released by Scream Factory on Blu-ray & Digital today. Based on the novel of the same name, the film was directed by Daniel de la Vega (Chronicle of The Raven).

“While on a trip with her young son, Cecilia has a car accident. Three days later, she finds herself wandering a lonely road with no sign of her child—and no memory of what happened since the crash. Cecilia’s desperate search for her son leads her on a wrenching and tumultuous journey to face off against a religious fanatic who holds the shocking key to it all.”

V/H/S/94 filmmaker Jennifer Reeder is back with Night’s End, a brand new horror movie that’s coming exclusively to the Shudder streaming service this Thursday, March 31st.

In Night’s End, an anxious shut-in unwittingly moves into a haunted apartment and hires a mysterious stranger to perform an exorcism that takes a horrific turn.

The film stars Geno Walker (“Chicago Fire”), Kate Arrington (“Mare of Easttown”), Felonious Munk (“Block Party”) and Michael Shannon (Knives Out).

Night’s End was written by Brett Nevue and produced by Neal Edelstein (The Ring), Nevue and David E. Tolchinsky.

Jared Leto stars in Sony’s Marvel movie Morbius, set in the same world as the Venom and Spider-Man movies and finally coming to theaters this Friday, April 1st.

Sony’s latest Spider-Man spinoff centers on Michael Morbius, a scientist who, in trying to find a cure for a rare blood disease, accidentally transforms himself into a living vampire. Though disgusted by his own bloodlust, he chooses to prey upon criminals he deems unworthy of life.

“One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius.

“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”

Daniel Espinosa (Life) directed Morbius.


You Won't Be Alone trailer

Also out this Friday is the folk horror film You Won’t Be Alone, which has been called “the best folk horror film since The Witch.” It’s coming only to movie theaters for now.

Noomi Rapace stars.

The film is “Set in an isolated mountain village in 19th century Macedonia, the film follows a young girl who is kidnapped and then transformed into a witch by an ancient spirit. Curious about life as a human, the young witch accidentally kills a peasant in the nearby village and then takes her victim’s shape to live life in her skin. Her curiosity ignited, she continues to wield this horrific power in order to understand what it means to be human.”

You Won’t Be Alone marks the feature debut by Australian-Macedonian writer/director Goran StolevskiKristina Ceyton (The Babadook, The Nightingale) and Sam Jennings (Cargo) produce.

Anamaria MarincaAlice Englert (Ratched), Carloto CottaFélix Maritaud, and Sara Klimoska star alongside Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, Lamb, Netflix’s Black Crab).


‘Barbarians’ Review – A Slow Simmering Dinner Party Favors Satire Over Horror

The final horror release for the week is Barbarians, Charles Dorfman’s directorial debut. The “darkly funny thriller” heads to theaters and VOD platforms on April 1 from IFC Midnight.

Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones”), Catalina Sandino Moreno (Maria Full of Grace), Tom Cullen (Weekendand Inès Spiridonov (Seuls) star in Dorfman’s Barbarians.

“Set over the course of twenty-four hours, Barbarians sees couple Adam (Rheon) and Eva (Moreno) wake up in their supposed dream house on Adam’s birthday. Lucas (Cullen), property developer and friend of the couple, arrives for dinner with his actress girlfriend Chloe (Spiridonov), to celebrate Adam’s birthday and the couple’s buying of the house.

“But secrets unravel over dinner, and when the doorbell rings the evening takes a nightmarish turn. As manners give way to madness, an ‘idyllic’ evening of celebration descends into a dark night of terror; and the group’s civilized dinner party turns out to be anything but.”
