Sega Genesis ‘Ghostbusters: Special Edition’ Hack Still Alive, Devs Share Update on Winston’s Inclusion

Remember that fan project back in April that aimed to put Ernie Hudson into Ghostbusters on the Sega Genesis? The Ghostbusters: Special Edition is still very much alive, and Ghostbusters News has dropped a little update on the project, which along with the addition of Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore, features a few other goodies.

One of the programmers involved in the Ghostbusters: Special Edition project, BillyTime!Games, posted an update to Twitter regarding the ROM hack, saying that the project is expected to get back up and running in the new year. In addition, he also shared a new Slimer-branded SEGA startup logo for the hacked ROM.

Earlier, one of the artists on the project, Danilo Diaz, posted an image of Winston’s sprite that will be used in the game.

The Ghostbusters: Special Edition project aims to not only put Winston in the game, but will also include alternate uniforms, a save system, and according to BillyTime!Games, hidden secrets and “even have a few more surprises“. For those wondering just how you’ll be able to get ahold of the ROM hack once it’s been completed, the mod file will be uploaded to ROMhacking.net.

In the meantime, you can catch Hudson, alongside Dan Aykroyd, in the upcoming Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord for the Sony PlayStation VR2 and Meta Quest 2 next year.
