‘Scream’ Clip: A Weathered Dewey Breaks Down Three Rules to Identify Ghostface [Video]

Wes Craven’s 1996 masterpiece Scream might be a slasher on its surface, but it’s importantly also a whodunit in which any of the film’s characters could be the killer.

Paramount Pictures has made the mystery a huge part of the marketing behind the new Scream, this time directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, as well as executive producer Chad Villella, the three members of the filmmaking group Radio Silence (Ready or Not, V/H/S, Southbound).

In this brand new clip, a weathered Dewey Riley (David Arquette) looks defeated, like he’s given up on life after 25 years of continual trauma. Two of the suspects teens have tracked him down in search of answers. What they get are three rules that will help them identify who is behind the Ghostface mask.

  • Rule #1: Never trust the love interest.
  • Rule #2: The Killer’s motive is always connected to something in the past.
  • Rule #3: First victim always has a friend group that the killer is always part of.

Find out when Scream slashes into theaters only next Friday, January 14th.
