Sarah Michelle Gellar Would Cast Zendaya in a “Buffy” Reboot

The 25th anniversary of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is being celebrated this year, so naturally there’s been some talk about a potential “Buffy” reboot down the road. Even Sarah Michelle Gellar has chimed in about that, recommending her own dream casting for the role.

I vote Zendaya,” Sarah Michelle Gellar tells Evan Ross Katz, the author of a brand new book titled Into Every Generation a Slayer Is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts.

The book, which explores the history and cultural impact of the groundbreaking television series, was released just last week. The official synopsis reads, “Evan Ross Katz explores the show’s cultural relevance through a book that is part oral history, part celebration, and part memoir of a personal fandom that has universal resonance still, decades later.”

Zendaya is fresh off major big screen roles in Dune and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and she’ll next be seen in Dune: Part Two, reprising the role of Chani for director Denis Villeneuve.

Last we heard about a potential “Buffy” reboot was back in 2019, with a new take on the series being announced. The project was said to be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original [series],” but it’s been a while since we’ve heard a peep about that one. Would you like to see Zendaya as Buffy? Or perhaps a brand new vampire-slaying character?

The original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series ran from 1997 to 2003.
