Rumour: ‘Dead by Daylight’ Potentially Saying Goodbye to Leatherface

With Gun Interactive’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre: The Game on the horizon, the question of Leatherface’s status in Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight has come up. And if the clues from the recent Public Test Build are any indication, Leatherface might be going the way of Dead by Daylight‘s Stranger Things license.

Clues as to Leatherface’s future in Dead by Daylight come from Twitter fan accounts such as @DbdNewsReal, which have looked at the code from the recent Public Test Build. The code indicates that alternative unlicensed Perk strings have been added to the game, with names of said Perks having been changed. The changes only show for those who don’t have the Leatherface chapter for Dead by Daylight.

While the name changes don’t indicate by themselves that Leatherface is leaving, given the impending arrival of Gun Interactive’s own asymmetrical multiplayer game, and the situation with Stranger Things back in 2021, not to mention that Stranger Things 3: The Game met a similar fate on Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG to show up on Netflix’s games service, there’s reason to believe that Leatherface will follow suit.

If that’s indeed the case, those who have purchased Leatherface for Dead by Daylight will still be able to use him in the game after he leaves, much like the case with Stranger Things‘ Demogorgon, Nancy, and Steve.

Again, this is all speculation at this point, as Behaviour Interactive hasn’t announced Leatherface’s removal, nor have they addressed the recent code changes.

Currently, Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is aiming for a 2023 release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.
