Rian Johnson’s ‘Knives Out 2’ Likely Coming to Theaters and Netflix in Late 2022

Knives Out was a massive hit for Lionsgate back in 2019, pulling in over $300 million worldwide at the box office, so it was only natural that a sequel wouldn’t be too far behind. Netflix is on board for *two* sequels, last we heard, the first one expected later this year.

Variety reports today, “writer and director Rian Johnson’s hotly-anticipated sequel is expected to release in theaters and the streaming platform in the last quarter of 2022.”

The site adds, “In addition, the film is expected to also make a festival run before its release, although it’s unknown which ones it’s expected to debut at.”

Daniel Craig is back as Benoit Blanc for the upcoming sequel, with the confirmed ensemble cast thus far also including Dave BautistaEdward Norton, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn HahnLeslie Odom Jr.Janelle MonáeMadelyn Clineand Kate Hudson.

Rian Johnson had noted back in 2020 that he was developing a sequel that would center on Daniel Craig‘s detective character investigating a new case, which is likely still the plan.

In the first film…

“When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.”
