‘Returnal’ the Big BAFTA Games Winner, Earns Best Game

Housemarque’s sci-fi shooter Returnal scored big at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards, winning the coveted Best Game award, as well snagging awards in three other categories. Genre titles in Devolver Digital’s Inscryption and Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 also snagged awards.

Riding the momentum of its recently-released Ascension update, Returnal took home the BAFTA in the Audio Achievement and Music categories, as well as the award for Performer in a Leading Role category for Jane Perry’s performance as Returnal‘s protagonist Selene Vassos. Meanwhile, Inscryption took home the award for Game Design, and Psychonauts 2 beat out Resident Evil Village for the Performer in a Supporting Role BAFTA with Kimberly Brooks’ performance as Hollis Forsythe.

Sadly for Village, Capcom’s latest entry in the Resident Evil franchise went home empty-handed, along with Turtle Rock Studio’s Back 4 Blood. Surprisingly, Bethesda’s Death Loop, which had been cleaning up awards shows, also went home empty-handed.

You can hit up the official BAFTA Games site for the complete list of categories and winners.

Returnal is currently available on the PlayStation 5, with the Ascension update having been released last month.
