Occult Deckbuilder ‘The Killing Stone’ Switches to Early Access Release on February 18

After announcing a February 18 launch for their occult horror deckbuilding game The Killing Stone, developer Question has made the decision to switch from a full 1.0 launch to an Early Access release on that date. The decision comes after player testing feedback, and the desire to ensure that the game is as polished as possible.

As a result of the change, The Killing Stone will launch in Early Access at a discounted price of $12.99, with the full 1.0 release planned for later this year.

“Over the course of development, The Killing Stone became more story-forward than originally envisioned in pre-production. It now features a mystery-driven narrative, and interactive conversations with a modern English script and a 17th century script,” said Question’s co-owner and narrative director Jordan Thomas. “The feedback we’ve gotten from our playtesters suggests that players are especially invested in this narrative layer. They want more story, more voice acted content – and they want to puzzle out what’s going on without being spoon-fed, all of which is going to take a lot of iteration based directly on player feedback.”

The Early Access version of The Killing Stone will include:

  • All three primary story arcs (and associated decks of cards), one for each family
  • All the Optional missions (called Rituals)
  • A total of three demon lord opponents across critical path and optional content.

The game’s endgame arc, called The Reckoning, will be added with the final 1.0 release.

Set in a remote region of the Arctic circle, The Killing Stone invites players to use their wits to save a cursed family from their dark inheritance by beating a series of demons – and the Devil himself. You play as the Maven, who must uncover the haunting truth behind Mariken Svangård’s death (and life) as you engage family members and animal familiars in search of clues.
