New Looks at He-Man & Evil-Lyn in ‘Masters of the Universe’

New images of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn in Masters of the Universe have landed, courtesy of Empire.

Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee), the live-action film arrives in theaters and premium formats on June 5 from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel.

“There’s an inherent silliness to it, which we are acknowledging and embracing,” Knight tells Empire. “I think it’s a virtue, actually. And it’s woven into the script to help some of these things make sense to a modern audience. Like, why would that character have that stupid name? Well, over the course of the movie we show you why.”

Camila Mendes, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, and Idris Elba round out the cast.

After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Galitzine) back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Leto).

To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.

Chris Butler (ParaNorman), Aaron & Adam Nee (The Lost City), and David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) shared scripting duties.

Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin produce, with Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield serving as executive producers.

Mattel launched Masters of the Universe with a toy line in 1982 followed by the “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” cartoon from 1983-1985. The franchise now includes multiple animated series, toy lines, comics, video games, and books, along with a 1987 live-action film.
