New Look at ‘Stranger Things: Tales from ’85’ Animated Series; Showrunner Teases “A Lot of Freaking Cool Monsters”

To ease the pain of the impending end of “Stranger Things,” EW has revealed new images from “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85,” an animated spinoff coming to Netflix in 2026.

Set in the winter of 1985 — between the events of “Stranger Things” Seasons 2 and 3 — the Hawkins crew must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.

Showrunner Eric Robles (“Fanboy & Chum Chum,” “Glitch Techs”) describes the series as “Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter” to EW.

“The stakes are real for the kids. It’s not Scooby-Doo, man. It’s not like, ‘Oh, well, it’ll be fine.’ We don’t know if it’ll be fine,” says Robles, who promises “a lot of freaking cool monsters.”

Flying Bark Productions (“What If…?,” “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) is the animation studio behind the project.

It stars Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Ben Plessala as Will, and Brett Gipson as Hopper.

Additional voice actors include Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

“Stranger Things” creators Matt & Ross Duffer executive produce alongside Hilary Leavitt, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Robles.

The first four episodes of “Stranger Things” fifth and final season are streaming now, with the next three episodes coming December 25 and the series finale dropping on December 31.
