New Look at Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms in ‘Masters of the Universe’

Empire has revealed a new image of Idris Elba donning the helmet as Man-At-Arms in Masters of the Universe.

“[Masters of the Universe] is a really big part of my childhood,” Elba tells Empire. “The cartoons were always a little bit more fun, a bit more camp, a bit more out-there.”

The live-action film is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and written by Chris Butler (ParaNorman), Aaron & Adam Nee (The Lost City), and David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

“Travis, who’s an incredible director, wanted to pay homage to the aesthetic of the original. I was all for that,” Elba says. “It was like being at a big amusement arcade with all these massive characters.”

Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man alongside Camila Mendes, Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, Kristen Wiig, Jared Leto, and Elba.

After being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam (Galitzine) back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor (Leto).

To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela (Mendes) and Duncan/Man-At-Arms (Elba), and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.

Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin produce, with Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield serving as executive producers.

Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters and premium formats on June 5 from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel.
