It looks like love at first fright between Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster and Jessie Buckley as his companion in USA Today‘s new image from The Bride!
Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the iconoclastic take on the classic horror story hits theaters and IMAX on March 6 via Warner Bros.
It follows a lonely Frankenstein who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride is born.
What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
Buckley and Bale star with Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.
“Being completely honest, nobody wanted me to do that film,” Buckley recently told Vogue. “I mean, the studio. I’ve never done a Marvel, I’m not on Instagram, I’m probably the least bankable [choice]. Like the security or the riskiness was… It was difficult for them. And Maggie was like, ‘Sorry, I’m not doing it without her.’”
Gyllenhaal produces alongside Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker, The Wolf of Wall Street), Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.
The Bride! is rated R for “strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity, and language.”
