New Images of Christian Bale & Jessie Buckley in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride!’

Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley are alive as Frank and his companion in EW‘s new photos from The Bride!

The article also reveals that Buckley will play two other roles in addition to The Bride: Ida, a young woman murdered by low-level mobsters, and Frankenstein author Mary Shelley, speaking from beyond the grave.

Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the iconoclastic take on the classic horror story hits theaters and IMAX on March 6 via Warner Bros.

“It was really, really thrilling,” Buckley tells EW. “It was really probably the most intense, exhausting shoot of my life, but it was so fun.”

“It’s a great, kick-ass, bold, original film,” Bale adds. “This is real cinema.”

It follows a lonely Frankenstein who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride is born.

What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!

Buckley and Bale star with Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.

Gyllenhaal produces alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker, The Wolf of Wall Street), Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.

The Bride! is rated R for “strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity, and language.”
