A bit of surprise out of the EFM in Berlin as we learned that NEON (Infinity Pool, Titane) is behind the SXSW horror It Lives Inside, the highly anticipated horror feature from Bishal Dutta, and will release the film theatrically in US later this year.
The film stars Megan Suri (“Never Have I Ever,” Missing), Neeru Bajwa (Jatt & Juliet 1 & 2), Mohana Krishnan, Vik Sahay (Captain Marvel, “Chuck”) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out).
“Sam is desperate to fit in at school, rejecting her Indian culture and family to be like everyone else. When a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage in order to defeat it.”
The initial inspiration for the film emerged from the filmmaker’s own childhood experience of being born in India before emigrating to be raised in America, the press release revealed. The story draws heavily on both Indian demonic legend and a very personal family story from Dutta’s grandfather.
The film will have its World Premiere at SXSW in the Midnighters Section.
The original screenplay was penned by director, Bishal Dutta based on a story by Dutta and Ashish Mehta. Raymond Mansfield and Sean McKittrick of QC Entertainment produced, with NEON, Edward H. Hamm Jr, Jameson Parker, Arielle Voisvert, and Shawn Williamson executive producing.
