‘Mother of Flies’ Trailer and Poster Embrace Death and Dark Magic in the Woods

A young woman facing mortality ventures into the woods to escape death in Mother of Flies, and the new trailer and poster tease that dabbling in death magic often spells trouble.

Mother of Flies will be released on Shudder on January 23, 2026.

The witchy horror movie hails from filmmaking trio Toby Poser, John Adams, and Zelda Adams (Hellbender, Where the Devil Roams, Hell Hole), collectively known as the Adams Family. All three can be seen in the trailer below, which also includes daughter, Lulu Adams, in a co-starring role.

In the film, “Mickey (Zelda Adams) faces a deadly diagnosis, but she isn’t ready to die yet. Heading into the woods with her father (John Adams), she seeks dark magic at the hands of mysterious recluse, Solveig (Toby Poser), who has an intimate relationship with death and roots that go deep in the land. For three days, Mickey endures Solveig’s extreme rituals of death magic. But every cure has its cost, and every curse is another’s gift. As buried secrets claw their way to the surface, the veil between the living and the dead begins to unravel, and Mickey finds herself facing dark truths that only the dead and the dying can know.”

The Adams Family is also behind films The Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, Hell Hole, and Where the Devil Roams, as well as the episode “Plastic Smile” for Screambox’s Tales from the Void

The soundtrack for the Adams Family’s films is performed by the family’s band, H6LLB6ND6R.

Joe Lipsett wrote in his BD review out of Fantasia, “The movie continues the tradition of Adams family films featuring beautiful prose, visceral FX, and gorgeously moody environments, and Poser’s career-best performance as Solveig is the cherry on top.”
