Lars von Trier Horror Series “The Kingdom Exodus” Coming from Arthouse Streamer Mubi

Back in the 1990s, Lars von Trier directed two seasons of a series titled “The Kingdom,” and all these years later it’s coming back to life with “The Kingdom Exodus” from streamer Mubi.

“The Kingdom Exodus,” THR notes today, is technically the third and final season of “The Kingdom,” which aired in 1994 and 1997. Why have you never seen the series, you ask?

THR reports, “Streamer Mubi has also acquired the first two seasons of the show, which were long unavailable and have been restored in never-before-seen director’s cuts.”

Mubi has acquired “The Kingdom Exodus” for streaming release in North America, the U.K., Ireland, Latin America, Turkey and India, The Hollywood Reporter goes on to explain.

Expect “The Kingdom Exodus” to premiere on Mubi sometime in Fall 2022.

“Set in a state-of-the-art hospital that also happens to be haunted, The Kingdom combines surreal horror with slapstick comedy and a twisting mystery plot. The Kingdom Exodus follows Karen, a sleepwalker and obsessive The Kingdom series watcher who is desperately trying to find the answers to the unresolved questions of the show. One night, while in a deep sleep, she wanders into the darkness and ends up in the Kingdom hospital.”

Asta Kamma August, Mikael Persbrandt, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Tuva Novotny star in the third season of “The Kingdom,” with Alexander Skarsgård guest-starring.

Von Trier writes “The Kingdom” alongside Niels Vørsel.

Lars von Trier is the acclaimed Danish filmmaker who has directed films including Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Antichrist, Melancholia, Nymphomaniac, and The House That Jack Built.
