One of last year’s best records was A Skeleton Key in the Doors of Depression, a collaboration between Youth Code and Portland-based musician, singer & producer King Yosef, known for his brutal and punishing production that’s given life to many artists from Zheani to VTB, Alice Glass, and many others.
Yosef is back with his own brutality, delivering the hard-hitting single “Barbed Teeth” that he also produced, mixed and mastered all on his own. The accompanying video was co-directed by Yosef and Cameron Gené.
“This song is one of many I have been working on, but I feel it best represents the path that I am starting to unveil,” explains King Yosef. “Its sound is old and new to me all at once. It is 100% DIY. Written, recorded, produced, mixed, directed, filmed and edited by myself and friends.
“The idea of the song’s lyrics is based on the idea of inevitability of retaliation and perseverance,” he adds. “Things either fight to survive or they lay down and die.”
