Kelli Garner (Lars and the Real Girl, V/H/S/85), Jake Connelly (“Stranger Things”), and former Chicago Bears defensive end Israel Idonije will star in Blood on the Ice, Deadline reports.
The character-driven thriller unfolds against the backdrop of a harsh Midwestern winter, as a woman’s weekend retreat on a frozen lake turns into a fight for survival when her past demons and real-world threats collide.
Writer-director Justin Hayward makes his feature debut on the project, currently shooting on location in central Illinois.
Bangkok-based Mbrella Films produces its first American feature alongside IB Films.
Adam Pray is producing, with Stephen Fletcher and Darren Weninger serving as executive producers.
“I’m very happy that Mbrella Films is able to support this project, as this is the type of film that’s becoming increasingly difficult to make,” said Pray. “Blood on the Ice is a lean film with a strong creative vision, offering a deep exploration of character within a compelling setting.”
“The story is rooted in place and pressure,” Hayward added. “The Midwest winter isn’t just a backdrop — it actively shapes the film’s tone and the characters’ decisions.”
