James Wan’s ‘Malignant’ Makes the Leaderboard for #OscarsFanFavorite Award!

As you may have heard, the Oscars are letting movie fans get in on the action this year, with the Academy creating a special “Oscars Fan Favorite” category in an attempt to inject some new life into the proceedings. Essentially, this allows movies in the horror and superhero realms, as just two examples, to have a presence on the grandest movie stage of them all.

The official Oscars website explains. “Movie lovers unite! Make your voice heard this Oscars season by voting in this year’s Fan Favorite for a chance to win a trip to the 95th Oscars and voting on the Cheer Moment Top 5 to win a Movie Lovers Prize Pack!”

For the past week, fans have been voting in the #OscarsFanFavorite category, and the Academy has taken to Twitter this week to show off the Top 10 Leaderboard at this time.

Both James Wan’s Malignant and Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead have made the cut, which means one of those horror movies could very well show up on the Oscars stage!

Here’s the full leaderboard…

  • Army of the Dead
  • Cinderella
  • Dune
  • Malignant
  • Minamata
  • The Power of the Dog
  • Sing 2
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home
  • The Suicide Squad
  • Tick, Tick… Boom!

To vote, either tweet your favorite film from 2021 using the #OscarsFanFavorite, or you can more formally cast your vote on OscarsFanFavorite.com. Voting closes on March 3rd.

Tune in to the 94th Oscars on March 27 to see which films win. Could we actually see Malignant have a presence at the Oscars this year? Crazier things have happened!

It’s time for the Gabriel Hive to unite…

In Malignant, “Paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, Madison’s (Annabelle Wallis) torment worsens as she discovers that her waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.”
