James Wan to Produce Survival Horror Film ‘Doomtown’ from ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Writer

Divide/Conquer — the production company whose credits include M3GAN, Freaky, Heart Eyes, Totally Killer, and Black Phone 2 — has signed a first-look deal with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

The first production being developing with the studio is Doomtown, a high-concept survival horror film written by Chris Thomas Devlin (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022, Cobweb).

The logline is being kept under wraps, but Deadline has heard that James Wan is interested in directing the project, though sources close to the filmmaker have denied that.

In any case, Wan will produce alongside Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer, with Michael Clear, Ingrid Bisu, and Judson Scott serving as executive producers. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing production for Atomic Monster.

“Chris Thomas Devlin delivered a script that’s smart, eerie, and full of ideas, and Doomtown is a strong start to this new chapter with Divide/Conquer,” commented Clear.

Divide/Conquer has a long history with Blumhouse founder Jason Blum, who served as the principals’ mentor at the Sundance Creative Producing Lab over a decade ago.

“We’re thrilled to deepen our collaboration with Blumhouse and to work more closely with the incredible team at Atomic Monster as we expand our combined slate,” said Hendricks & Gilreath. “Together, we’ll be able to pursue even more ambitious genre stories while continuing to grow Divide/Conquer as a home for the next generation of original voices.”

“Adam and Greg are exceptional creative partners who bring discipline and a deep understanding of genre,” added Blum. “This deal strengthens our ability to develop fresh voices and build long-term relationships with filmmakers earlier in their careers.”

Divide/Conquer is also collaborating with Blumhouse on Anything But Ghosts from Milk & Serial director Curry Barker.
