“It’s All About Finding a Home for It” – Mads Mikkelsen Still Hungry for a “Hannibal” Return

We still have no idea whether or not Bryan Fuller‘s brilliant but short-lived NBC series “Hannibal” is ever going to find new life elsewhere, but it remains a future possibility that both Fuller and star Mads Mikkelsen are more than happy to imagine and talk about. In fact, Mikkelsen just made fresh comments on the potential future of “Hannibal” this week.

While on the red carpet for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mikkelsen was asked about the return of “Hannibal,” and his answer once again suggested that he’s still very much hungry to bite back into the iconic role. The problem? The show is without a home.

“Always a chance… there’s always a chance,” Mikkelsen tells Deadline. “It’s all about finding a home for it. Of course, we’re running out of time. We can’t wait 20 years… but in the next couple years, if someone finds a home, we are all ready to take it up again.”

Creator Bryan Fuller has been keeping the hope alive for the return of “Hannibal” ever since NBC pulled the plug back in 2015, but at this moment in time, there seems to be no actual movement in regards to any sort of revival. As Mikkelsen notes, the hope is that a network or streamer will see the value in picking the show up and bringing it back for a fourth season.

“Hannibal” ran for three seasons on NBC between 2013 and 2015, and the show’s massively dedicated fanbase has been hungry for its return for nearly ten years now. Most recently, the CBS series “Clarice” brought the world of The Silence of the Lambs back to the small screen with a reboot in 2021, but the series has seemingly dropped off the face of the Earth.

It’s only a matter of time before Hannibal Lecter returns to the screen. Here’s hoping it’s Mads Mikkelsen who once again finds himself in the role. Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
