Help Nominate Horror Legend Tom Savini for the Pittsburgh Walk of Fame

With over 50 years in the industry, special effects legend Tom Savini has more than earned his status as a horror icon.

Fans are now campaigning to nominate Savini for the Pittsburgh Walk of Fame.

Savini fits both criteria that nominees need to meet: they must have been born in or have spent their formative/creative years in the Pittsburgh region, and their accomplishments must have had a national impact on America’s cultural heritage.

After the nomination period has closed, qualified submissions are presented to a diverse selection committee for consideration. Based on their votes, the Pittsburgh Walk of Fame board of directors makes the final determination regarding the new class of inductees.

The names of the honorees are announced in the spring, and an induction ceremony will be held in the fall.

Savini’s iconic special effects in the likes of Friday the 13th, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Creepshow, The Burning, and Maniac, earned him the nickname “The Sultan of Splatter.”

He has also appeared on screen in such films as From Dusk Till Dawn, Django Unchained, Planet Terror, Machete, and Terrifier 3.

Savini was hand-selected by George A. Romero to direct the 1990 version of Night of the Living Dead. More recently, he designed The Grabber’s mask for The Black Phone.

Pittsburgh Walk of Fame nominations open until tomorrow, January 30, at 5pm, so join us in nominating Savini now.
