‘Ghostbusters – Special Edition’ Romhack Available Now for Sega Genesis [Video]

Back in December, programmer BillyTime!Games stated that their long-awaited Ghostbusters – Special Edition romhack of the Sega Genesis version of Ghostbusters was still very much on the way. And that day arrived last night with the announcement that the romhack is now available for fans to download.

Available at ROMHacking.net, Ghostbusters – Special Edition adds a whack of new content to the game. Most notably, players can now select and play as Ernie Hudson‘s Winston Zeddemore for the first time. The romhack also introduces new costumes for the team for a total of six, as well as new cheat codes and unlockables, and a new save feature!

If that’s not enough, the patch also introduces a new Nightmare Mode difficulty to the game. This mode not only reduces your starting lives to one, but you also have a reduced health cap, no continues, and the cheats that were restored from the Japanese version of the game have been disabled.

Now as we mentioned before, in order to play Ghostbusters – Special Edition, you’ll need to get a copy of the game’s ROM. That’s in the grey area of legality, so you’ll have to do a bit of digging. Once you do, the readme file included with the patch will guide you through how to get things working, as well as detail all of the new goodies for the game.

Now that Ghostbusters – Special Edition is out the door, here’s hoping that BillyTime!Games will jump on Splatterhouse 2, which they alluded to back in March.
