A sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is on the way, confirmed during “Ghostbusters Day” earlier this month, and Sony has now provided us with a release date for the new movie.
The untitled sequel brings the ghosts back to theaters on December 20, 2023!
Earlier this month on “Ghostbusters Day” (June 8), Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan confirmed what the end credits of Ghostbusters: Afterlife hinted at – that the live action sequel will return to the original films’ New York City and Firehouse setting.
The upcoming movie is said to be the “next chapter in the Spenger family story.” No word yet on who’s returning, but we can expect Afterlife and legacy characters in the mix.
The latest chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, made its theatrical debut in November 2021 and grossed over $200 million at the global box office.
A brand new animated series AND animated movie are also on the way, so Sony/Columbia Pictures are currently all-in on expanding the Ghostbusters Universe as much as possible.
An exciting time to be a Ghostbusters fan, to say the very least!
