‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Designed to Reinvigorate Franchise for New Filmmakers, Says Director Jason Reitman

More Ghostbusters sequels could materialize if Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a hit, says director Jason Reitman who was on hand to present a surprise screening this past weekend at the New York Comic Con.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the official third film fans have been clamoring for, and Reitman tells the Comic Con crowd that it was designed to reinvigorate the franchise and build upon the universe.

“We wanted to make a movie that opened the universe to all kinds of stories,” Reitman exclaimed, via THR.

Even if Afterlife is a success, it doesn’t sound as if Reitman plans to return to the director’s chair. Instead, he teases potential collaborations with his favorite filmmakers.

“I want to see Ghostbusters movies from all of my favorite directors and I hope this movie sets the table for them,” he added.

In the “next chapter” of Ghostbusters, “When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.”

Afterlife‘s cast includes Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.

Bill MurrayDan AykroydErnie HudsonSigourney Weaver and Annie Potts are all coming back for this sequel to the original classic, reprising their iconic and beloved roles.
