Christophe Gans’ Return to Silent Hill releases in theaters next week, and it’s pulling out all the stops with its Alternate Reality Game (ARG) now underway.
Return to Silent Hill releases in theaters January 23 from Cineverse & Bloody Disgusting.
The detailed ARG campaign quietly launched last month, with cryptic clues, exclusive clips, and hidden lore spread across Reddit, Instagram, and TikTok, driving fans to youliveherenow.com, sending participants to accomplish digital and real-world tasks that result in digital and physical prizes.
Instructions were hidden with the fog on the website, distributed via film social media handles, or even buried in the code of the ARG website.
The rewards increased with the ARG’s phases, with harder tasks and clues to solve along with special partnerships, and it’s all led to the ARG’s big climax.
For the final task? See Return to Silent Hill on the big screen. Moviegoers who show proof of ticket purchase receive a limited-edition postcard from Silent Hill at participating chains nationwide. It’s the final reward in the ARG, one that’s only unlockable by seeing the film in theaters.
Of course, expect more than meets the eye with anything that hails from the foggy, nightmarish town of Silent Hill.
In Return to Silent Hill, “When James receives a letter from his lost love Mary, he is drawn to Silent Hill—a once-familiar town now consumed by darkness. As he searches for her, James faces monstrous creatures and unravels a terrifying truth that will push him to the edge of his sanity.”
Jeremy Irvine is James, alongside Hannah Emily Anderson as Mary Crane and Evie Templeton as Laura.
Christophe Gans, who also directed the 2006 feature film adaptation of Silent Hill, wrote the script for the new movie alongside Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider.
Return to Silent Hill brings the game experience to life with its new ARG, but time is running out…
