The opening kill of Fear Street Part 1: 1994 recreated the shocking demise of Drew Barrymore’s character in Scream, marking the first of many nods and homages to horror’s best for the trilogy. But how many references did you catch?
Netflix released a nearly 10-minute long video to help, giving a closer look at the obvious and not so obvious references that director Leigh Janiak infused in her slasher trilogy. From 1978’s year tipping its hat to the Halloween‘s release to characters using Fear Street author R.L. Stine’s books as literal plot armor, the video breaks down each entry of the series. Even The Shining and The Exorcist found its way into the trilogy.
Based on R.L. Stine’s best selling horror series, Leigh Janiak (Honeymoon) directed all three films that follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history.
