While the Friday the 13th franchise continues to lie dormant due to legal issues, writer-director Lucky Cerruti has come up with a “mockbuster” of sorts to hold you over until Jason returns.
Coming this May from Wild Eye Releasing, Lucky’s slasher movie Freak has the exact same set-up as a Friday the 13th movie, with a group of friends being knocked off in the woods by a slasher maniac. The killer in this one, well, it’s a low-budget, stop-motion Jason Voorhees!
The film’s tagline is “Jason Voorhees isn’t the only monster lurking in the woods,” and the titular Freak looks like something you’d see in the early 90s horror movie Winterbeast.
If you’re into no-budget, DIY practical effects, you might find this one amusing!
In Freak, “A bloody legend becomes all too real for a group of kids heading out for a weekend of camping and partying. Will they survive what waits for them in the woods?”
