From the British countryside comes the psychological folk horror tale Emerald Cottage, and we have the exclusive trailer below.
Set in post-World War II England, the film follows Nancy, an undertaker’s assistant who travels to a rural cottage to look after the body of a young girl who has died in mysterious circumstances.
Alone with the corpse, Nancy sets about preparing her for the wake — only to discover that things aren’t quite what they seem as unsettling truths about the girl’s death are revealed.
Sean Kanan (The Karate Kid Part III, “Cobra Kai”) stars alongside Charlotte Wallis and Kitty Sudbery.
Drawing influence from Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in their favoring of dread over gore, Jason M.J. Brown directs from a script he co-wrote with Peter Watson.
“Emerald Cottage channels the suffocating unease of horror; the patience, the atmosphere, the haunting silence, firmly in the soil of the British countryside,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “Folk horror meets psychological terror, creating something chillingly new.”
Emerald Cottage is currently being actively pitched for distribution, so keep an eye out for it later this year.
