Just three weeks remain in 2021, and this week will be the final week that’s packed with enough horror releases to really warrant a roundup. For starters, the brand new “Extended Cut” of Halloween Kills arrives this week, along with a new Guillermo del Toro movie!
Here’s all the new horror arriving between December 13-December 19…
First up this week, Halloween Kills: The Extended Cut will release digitally on December 14, before coming to 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray & DVD on January 11, 2022.
“Survivors of Michael Myer’s rampage form a vigilante mob and set out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. The Extended Cut has more thrills, kills, and an alternate ending.”
What can we expect from the alternate ending? The novelization may answer that question.
Also on Tuesday, the indie horror movie Achoura will be released on DVD and Digital HD by Dark Star Pictures, inspired by the religious celebration also known as “Children’s Night.”
In the film, four friends reconnect when one of them, who disappeared 25 years ago, suddenly comes back into their lives. Together, they will have to confront the terrifying events of their youth and fight a monstrous creature born of a horrible legend.
Patrick Bromley reviewed Achoura out of the Cinepocalypse premiere way back in 2019, calling the film “a bleak, somber meditation on the death of innocence.”
The final new release for this Tuesday is The Darkness of the Road, from director Eduardo Rodriguez (Fright Night 2, El Gringo, Curandero). Najarra Townsend stars in this one.
Townsend (Contracted, The Stylist, and Dementia: Part II) plays a single mother; she and her young daughter are driving on a desolate road in a moonless desert. After meeting a young female hitchhiker at a gas station, the mother realizes her daughter is missing. As they search for her, a merciless force begins to torment the two women, unraveling a world of terror they must survive if they are to discover the terrifying truth behind the daughter’s disappearance.

Jumping over to Thursday, December 16, AMC+ is getting set to take out a colony of vampires in “Firebite”, a new series that’ll premiere a new episode every single Thursday.
“Firebite” is said to “take a new spin on the vampire genre, following two Indigenous Australian hunters, Tyson (Rob Collins) and Shanika (Shantae Barnes-Cowan), on their quest to battle the last colony of vampires in the middle of the South Australian desert.”

There’s much to look forward to on Friday, December 17, which kicks off with Guillermo del Toro‘s brand new movie Nightmare Alley, playing only in theaters this Friday.
Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn star in Nightmare Alley.

Also on Friday, Henry Cavill‘s Geralt of Rivia returns to Netflix with the second season of the monster-slaying series “The Witcher.” And don’t worry, Season 3 is already confirmed!

The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin makes his directorial debut with the sci-fi movie Mother/Android, which is coming exclusively to Hulu this Friday, December 17th.
Chloe Grace Moretz stars in the Miramax film.

The final treat for this week is “Joe Bob Ruins Christmas,” a brand new Christmas-themed episode of “The Last Drive-In” that will be premiering on Shudder this Friday at 9pm EST.
Joe Bob Briggs once again promises to bring a new batch of titles that’ll confound viewers. Also back is the live auction format, which raised over $40,000 for charities in 2020 while giving fans the chance to snag rare collectibles from the host and Darcy the Mail Girl.
