‘Dune’ Prequel Series for HBO Max is Set 10,000 Years Prior to the Movie

Originally announced back in 2019, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is getting a spinoff series with “Dune: The Sisterhood,” an HBO Max project that Variety reports more info on today.

For starters, Johan Renck (“Chernobyl”) will direct the first two episodes. Villeneuve was originally going to direct the pilot, but is hard at work on the Dune sequel instead.

Variety details, “The show is set 10,000 years prior to the events of “Dune” and follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”

Diane Ademu-John (“The Haunting of Bly Manor”) will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the upcoming Dune spinoff series from HBO Max.

The series is co-produced by HBO Max and Legendary Television.
