Bruce Campbell may have officially retired from playing Ash Williams in the Evil Dead franchise, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing Campbell cameos in Sam Raimi movies for (hopefully) many years to come. Up next from Raimi is the darkly comedic psychological thriller Send Help, and the new trailer indeed features a Bruce Campbell cameo!
In Send Help, releasing in theaters on January 30, two colleagues (Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien) become stranded on a deserted island, the only survivors of a plane crash. On the island, they must overcome past grievances and work together to survive.
Dylan O’Brien plays Bradley Preston in the Sam Raimi movie, and the trailer that just dropped this morning reveals that the father of O’Brien’s character is played by Bruce Campbell!
From what we’re able to gather, Bradley is taking over his father’s company, and the trailer provides us with a shot of the character tossing a photo of his mother and father into the trash. The father pictured in the photo is Bruce Campbell, who has of course been attached at the hip to Sam Raimi throughout both of their careers dating back to the original Evil Dead.
A painting of Bruce Campbell is also glimpsed on the wall of Bradley’s new office.
The film’s twisted storyline is set into motion when Bradley takes over his father’s company and promptly fires Rachel McAdams’ character Linda Liddle, who ends up being uniquely qualified to survive on the deserted island both characters end up being stranded on.
Bruce Campbell is credited on IMDb as being part of the Send Help cast, so it’s possible he’ll be making an appearance in the film beyond these Easter Eggs. We’ll find out January 30.
