Chloe East (Heretic), Jimmi Simpson (“Westworld”), Sutton Foster (“Younger”), Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do), and Bilal Hasna (“3 Body Problem”) have been cast in Rule of Three, Deadline reports.
They join the previously announced Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho) in the psychological horror film, currently in production.
Katie Douglas (Clown in a Cornfield) was originally cast in the lead but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, with East taking over her role.
“Psych” star James Roday Rodriguez (Gravy) is directing from a script he co-wrote with Todd Harthan (“Psych,” “The Resident”), based on Sam Ripley‘s 2022 novel of the same name.
The synopsis asks: Are Amy (East) and her family plagued by a deadly curse? Every three years, death strikes under mysterious circumstances, horrifically killing family members. It’s almost three years to the day since Amy’s parents’ death, and Amy realizes the curse must strike her next.
With the help of her best friend Lizzy (McKenzie), the two friends try to cheat Amy’s death and find a way to reverse the curse. But is Amy’s fate already sealed? Bad things always happen in threes, so they say…
Temple Hill Entertainment (Smile, Clown in a Cornfield) and Protagonist Pictures (The Brutalist, Clown in a Cornfield) are producing, with the hopes of launching a trilogy.
Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner produce for Temple Hill, with Hal Sadoff and Ben Levine executive producing. Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls produce for Nostromo Pictures. Dave Bishop, James Pugh, and George Hamilton serve as executive producers for Protagonist, in collaboration with Rodriguez and Harthan’s Taft Tennis.

Protagonist Pictures is handling sales, representing the project at next week’s European Film Market in Berlin.
The film has already been pre-sold in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, & France (Wildbunch), Portugal (Cinemundo), Latin America (Sun), Australia & New Zealand (Umbrella), Eastern Europe (M2), Baltics (ACME), Ukraine (Greenlight), India (Pictureworks), Philippines (Pioneer), the Middle East (Front Row), and Israel (Lev).
