Charli XCX to Shoot Takashi Miike Horror Film in Japan Next Month; Milly Alcock & Norman Reedus Join Cast

Production is slated to begin in Japan next month on prolific master of horror Takashi Miike‘s (Audition, Ichi the Killer) new film starring pop sensation Charli XCX.

Deadline reports that Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead”), Sho Kasamatsu (“Tokyo Vice”), and Kiko Mizuhara (Attack on Titan) have joined the cast.

The as-yet-untitled film will follow three best friends who meet up in Kyoto, Japan, to rekindle their lifelong friendships. What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara).

Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi wrote the script, based on an original idea by Charli and Miike.

Charli will produce under her Studio365 banner alongside Good World Productions, Yumiko Aoyagi Productions, and OLM. Alex Peace-Power and Miike’s longtime producing partner Misako Saka will executive produce.

“I’m really excited to work with Takashi Miike this year on this film that I’m going to produce, which is crazy to me to go to Japan and shoot with a horror auteur,” Charli recently told SmartLess. “I’m like, ‘This is insane!'”

The Veterans and CAA Media Finance are launching international sales ahead of next week’s European Film Market in Berlin.

You can see Charli XCX’s mockumentary The Moment in theaters now, then catch her in the meta remake of Faces of Death on April 10.
