‘Black Mirror’ Will Return for Season 8 at Netflix

Creator Charlie Brooker has officially announced this morning that Netflix has ordered up “Black Mirror” Season 8, which he hopes will be “more Black Mirror than ever.”

The news come in the wake of last year’s seventh season earning Golden Globes nominations including “Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for TV.”

Brooker tells the Netflix website Tudum, “It was a pleasant surprise and an honor. I mean, obviously, I don’t experience human emotion, but as much as I can emulate it, I was pleased.”

He teases, “Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever.”

Charlie Brooker is also re-teaming with Netflix for a mysterious serial killer series.

He tells Tudum this week, “There’s definitely something I’m not saying about it at the moment just yet. I can’t even tell you what it’s called yet, but it’s very much not Black Mirror. I can say that. It’s a very, very different thing. The most detective show of all time. It’s a deeply profound and profoundly serious crime thriller.”

The streamer recently teased, “The untitled series is set between the fictional northern city of Bleakford and the streets of London, following a tormented detective on a relentless mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims.”

“Black Mirror” is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable – and sometimes unsettling – conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm – a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone – a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us.

The hit series premiered in 2011, a sort of “Twilight Zone” for the modern day.
