Best of 2025: The 6 Funniest Horror Movie Moments of the Year

Executing an effective scare is remarkably similar to telling an effective joke, though the punchline usually ends in screams instead of laughs. This genre overlap is one reason why so many horror filmmakers feel comfortable with adding humor to their movies, as there’s nothing better than a comedic gag to break the tension following a chilling scene.

This phenomenon was alive and well in 2025, with this year’s cinematic offerings providing us with plenty of hilarious horror-comedies as well as deeply serious horror experiences that occasionally cleared the air with a well-told joke. In honor of these memorable gags, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of the year’s funniest moments in horror movies!

While you should keep in mind that humor is inherently subjective, don’t forget to comment below with your own personal favorite horror movie gags from 2025 if you think we missed a particularly fun one.

With that out of the way, onto the list!

6. Erik Taunts Death – Final Destination Bloodlines

Richard Harmon’s Erik was one of the standout characters of the sixth film in the Final Destination series, so it stands to reason that this lovable piercing enthusiast would be at the heart of one of the movie’s most memorable scenes. After surviving a fiery brush with Death at his workplace, Erik dismisses his cousin’s warnings about a family curse and begins to repeatedly taunt Death while a garbage truck drives by.

Erik’s misguided sarcasm is entertaining enough (especially after that Scary-Movie-style fake-out as he backs into the street), but the real cherry on top here is the fact that, in the background, we ultimately see his sister fall victim to a convoluted series of accidents involving the truck and everything our protagonist was warning them about.

5. Sex Toy to the Face – Heart Eyes

An unlikely weapon emerges in Heart Eyes' funniest moment

Heart Eyes won’t be dethroning My Bloody Valentine as the definitive Valentine’s Day slasher movie, but Josh Ruben’s charming little horror-rom-com still has a lot going for it. If you ask me, one of the film’s greatest assets is its twisted sense of humor, with the filmmakers leaning into the ridiculousness of the premise where co-workers are erroneously assumed to be a couple by a romance-hating serial killer.

One of the greatest examples of this is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment of slapstick genius that occurs once Olivia Holt’s Ally has a heartfelt conversation with Mason Gooding‘s Jay inside her bedroom. Realizing that she left her pink sex toy in plain sight, Olivia proceeds to nonchalantly move towards the toy and transport it to the closet while continuing the conversation. Unfortunately for her, opening the closet door reveals that the Heart Eyes Killer was watching the duo all along, leading to an absurd reaction where Olivia throws the sex toy in the killer’s face and then slams the door on him.

I don’t know about you, but this little moment had the whole theater howling back when I first saw the movie, and that’s why it makes it onto the list!

4. Teletubbies Massacre – 28 Years Later

Ending a surprisingly poignant reflection on mortality with an over-the-top action sequence set to the tune of the Teletubbies theme was one of the strangest choices in all of Danny Boyle’s celebrated career, but it’s precisely this kind of idiosyncratic filmmaking that makes 28 Years Later so much more than your run-of-the-mill legacy sequel.

Of course, not even the horrific context behind the infected-slaying “Jimmies” and their warped reverence of nostalgic media can distract viewers from the fact that this bizarre and abrupt shift in tone is utterly hilarious. While some fans criticized this choice for supposedly undermining the somber experience that came before, I’d argue that only a master storyteller is capable of so thoroughly subverting viewer expectations while still keeping them hyped for a sequel.

3. Forklift to the Face – Screamboat

While many genre fans dismiss the recent slew of horror movies inspired by public domain characters as cheap cash-grabs, I’m of the opinion that the attention-seeking premise behind these productions is less important than their execution. In the case of Steven LaMorte’s Screamboat (which features Terrifier’s David Howard Thornton as a murderous Mickey Mouse), you can tell that the filmmakers actually cared about the material that they were satirizing.

I mean, the story itself pokes fun at the darker side of Disney productions, and the “Party Princesses” targeted by Steamboat Willie are all references to beloved Disney Princesses. This leads to one of the funniest scenes in the movie, where Bella and Jazzy are practicing suggestive selfie poses in the cargo hold while being observed by Willie. In a fit of rage, the mutant mouse uses a forklift to impale the Princesses in the mouth just as they practice an exaggerated “ahegao” expression, with the result being just as ridiculous as it is gory.

On paper, this moment may sound more gruesome than hilarious, but trust me when I say that LaMorte’s comedic timing here is impeccable.

2. Poolside Electrocution – The Monkey

An unexpectedly heartfelt horror comedy, Osgood PerkinsThe Monkey is one of the funniest Stephen King adaptations ever made, and that’s why it was so difficult to narrow down a single moment for our list. However, looking back on the flick’s bloody series of unfortunate (yet hilarious) events, there’s one scene that stands out due to the reaction it tends to get out of first-time viewers.

On his way back to his hometown, Hal Shelburn stops by a motel where he witnesses a fellow guest dive into the establishment’s pool – completely unaware that a series of supernatural mishaps have electrified the water. The poor girl then inexplicably explodes into a fine mist of blood and guts immediately after making contact with the water.

Not only is this one of the bloodiest moments on this list, but the sheer absurdity of the situation means that we’ll still be thinking about this over-the-top death for years to come.

1. Aunt Gladys Chase – Weapons

Weapons - kids bust through windows to chase Aunt Gladys in Weapons' funniest horror movie moment

Filmmaker Zach Cregger got his start as a part of the infamous comedy troupe The Whitest Kids You Know, so it makes sense that his horror films contain a healthy dose of edgy humor. However, no one was expecting Zach to end his sinister thriller Weapons with a chase scene that feels like it was lifted from one of his old comedy sketches.

After Alex manages to turn the enchanted children on Aunt Gladys by using her own magic against her, the kids proceed to hunt the aging witch throughout the neighborhood in what can only be described as a Scooby Doo chase scene on steroids. The confused reactions from the neighbors are what really make this moment work, as their casual bewilderment only enhances this unexpected bit of surreal humor.
