‘Batman Azteca’ – HBO Max Animated Movie Gives Rise to a New Batman in Mexico

A brand new Batman animated movie from DC is in the works for HBO Max Latin America, Deadline reports this week, and the unique new project is titled Batman Azteca.

The full title for the animated movie is Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios (Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires), and it’s set during the Aztec Empire in Mexico.

Here’s the plot synopsis…

“In the time of the Aztec Empire, Yohualli Coatl — a young Aztec boy — experiences tragedy when his father and village leader, Toltecatzin, is murdered by Spanish Conquistadors. Yohualli escapes to Tenochtitlan to warn King Moctezuma and his high priest, Yoka, of imminent danger.

“Using the temple of Tzinacan, the bat god, as a lair, Yohualli trains with his mentor and assistant, Acatzin, developing equipment and weaponry to confront the Spaniard invasion, protect Moctezuma’s temple, and avenge his father’s death.”

Horacio Garcia Rojas (“Narcos: Mexico”) is voicing Yohualli Coatl.

Juan Meza-León (“Harley Quinn”) is on board to direct.
