Atari’s ‘Haunted House’ Reimagining Arrives October 12 for PC, Consoles [Trailer]

Atari is reaching back to bring back one of their classics. Their 1982 precursor to the modern Survival Horror game Haunted House (which turned 40 not too long ago) is getting a modern makeover in the form of an isometric roguelite, courtesy of Orbit Studio. Best of all, you won’t have to wait long, as Haunted House is set to arrive on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Atari VCS, and the Xbox One and Series on October 12.

Drawing inspiration from the original classic while adopting modern stealth-horror characteristics, Haunted House sees players take on the role of Lyn Graves, the niece of renowned treasure hunter Zachary Graves. When Lyn learns of her uncle’s disappearance, she and her friends head to his mansion to investigate, but before long, Lyn’s friends are also swallowed by the mansion.

Players will navigate shifting walls, enemy encounters, and all manner of frights to guide Lyn back to her friends while also dispelling whatever spooks have infested the mansion. Should Lyn succumb to whatever lurks in the mansion, she’ll find herself back at the entrance of the haunted house, facing a completely new floor layout and rearranged enemies.

Haunted House emphasizes combat avoidance, requiring players to focus on stealth movement and solving challenges unseen in the shadows, along with utilizing the arsenal of traps and items at their disposal.

As Lyn explores the mansion, she’ll free her trapped friends, who become playable characters you can use to dive deeper into the mansion. Each friend possesses different stats, creating a new experience with whomever you next decide to explore the mansion. And for those Easter Egg hunters, Haunted House is full of collectibles and lore based on the original Haunted House and other classic favorites from Atari’s golden age.
