Allison Williams Would “Love” to Make ‘M3GAN 3.0’

Another installment in the M3GAN franchise is unlikely given the disappointing response to M3GAN 2.0, but franchise star Allison Williams is keeping the hope alive.

The star/producer lit up when asked about a potential M3GAN 3.0 by Variety this week: “I would love to do one. I’m down!”

Williams continued, “I miss it. I think these movies are really important. I learned a lot about AI making them, and I feel like people learned a lot watching them. Watch the second movie. There’s some cautionary tales in there.”

She added, “I can’t tell you how many times a week I read a headline and I’m like, ‘This is in our movie,’ or ‘This was something we talked about putting in our movie.'”

Williams starred in M3GAN as Gemma, a robotics engineer who pairs her orphaned niece with a new AI doll named M3GAN, which begins to behave in unexpected and shocking ways.

The first film was a surprise hit in 2022, earning $180 million worldwide on a $12 million budget. By contrast, M3GAN 2.0 made only $39 million against an estimated $25 million budget.

SOULM8TE, a spinoff set in the M3GAN universe, was originally due out this past January before being pulled from Universal’s release calendar. When it will see the light of day remains unknown, but its MPA rating last month suggests a release is imminent.
