The Disney-owned Alien and Predator franchises are once again under the same umbrella, with Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands firmly linking the two properties on the big screen for the first time in a long time. Twenty years after Alien vs. Predator hit theaters, Badlands centered on a Predator fighting to survive alongside a Weyland-Yutani android.
But while the Predator franchise is firmly acknowledging the Alien franchise, the Alien franchise hasn’t yet done the same. Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus had no discernible ties to the Predator saga and Noah Hawley’s series “Alien: Earth” similarly played only with Alien elements. With a second season on the way, does Hawley have any Predator tie-ins planned?
“No, not onto the show, I don’t think,” Hawley tells the SmartLess Podcast. ““I think Dan Trachtenberg, who made Prey and has made the Badlands movie — you know, I loved Prey. I think he’s doing a great job with that franchise. He clearly has a plan there. I’ve met Dan once, we’re not kind of coordinating any of that stuff. So, it’s not really my plan to do it.”
Production on Season 2 of “Alien: Earth” is set to kick off in London next year.
On the big screen, a sequel to Alien: Romulus is also in the works. Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, who starred in Alien: Romulus as Rain Carradine and her synthetic brother Andy, respectively, are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel. Fede Alvarez will not be returning to direct Alien: Romulus 2, but he did write the script alongside Rodo Sayagues.
As for the Predator franchise, the one-two punch of Predator: Killer of Killers and Predator: Badlands might pave the way for more from Trachtenberg down the line, but nothing has been officially announced at this time. Stay tuned for more on all things Alien and Predator.
