‘Affection’ Starring ‘Happy Death Day’s Jessica Rothe Set for May Release

Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe will get caught in another looping nightmare when Affection opens in select theaters May 8 via Brainstorm Media.

Rothe stars as Ellie Carter, who has never met the man who calls himself her husband, doesn’t recognize the girl who calls her mother, and can’t remember the life she is told is her own.

Afflicted by violent seizures that reset her memory without warning, Ellie is trapped in a cyclical nightmare, struggling to uncover the horrifying truth of her existence — before she forgets it all over again.

Joseph Cross (“Big Little Lies”) and Julianna Layne (“Chicago P.D.”) also star in the sci-fi horror thriller.

Writer-director BT Meza makes his feature debut on the project, in addition to producing with Bay Dariz, Austin Walk, and JP Ouellette.

Daniel Kurland wrote in his review out of the film’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival premiere last fall, “Affection is an existential, claustrophobic examination of the self that’s more than its teases, twists, and turns.”

Expect a full trailer for Affection soon. In the meantime, watch the teaser below.

Roth is fresh off the SXSW premiere of the sci-fi mystery Imposters. She’s also set to star with Jane Levy in Shudder’s survival slasher River.
