With The Occultist due out later this year, Daedalic Entertainment and developer DALOAR have revealed a brand-new demo for the upcoming psychological horror title, which is now available during Steam Next Fest. At the same time, the devteam has released its first dev diary, offering insight into protagonist Alan Rebels as a character.
As for the demo, it presents the game’s opening chapter. As Alan searches for his missing father, players uncover traces of occult practices, disturbing events, and fragments of a past that refuse to stay buried. Using Alan’s pendulum, they reveal hidden symbols, clues, and objects tied to both the town’s history and his father’s actions.
In The Occultist, players will step into the shoes of Alan Rebels as he embarks on a harrowing journey to the enigmatic island of Godstone, determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious disappearance. Equipped with his mystical pendulum, Alan must navigate the foggy streets and eerie buildings of Godstone, a place once home to a notorious cult known for its disturbing experiments and rituals.
Key to the gameplay is Rebels’ pendulum, which offers five unique mechanics to interact with and manipulate the environment. You’ll need the pendulum’s powers in order to solve the various puzzles you’ll encounter, as well as you having to utilize stealth tactics to avoid drawing unwanted attention on your mission.
The Occultist is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam.
