In the wake of Scream 7, Kevin Williamson is attached to co-write a series adaptation of Ashley Elston’s suspense thriller novel First Lie Wins, Variety reports.
Willaimson will also executive produce alongside Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment. Elston is serving as an executive producer as well. Universal Television is behind the project.
The story follows con artist Evie Porter, who assumes new identities for her mysterious boss, but finds her current assignment – a seemingly perfect life with a fiancé – threatened when her past catches up to her, forcing her to set a final trap to escape.
Published by Pamela Dorman Books in 2024, First Line Wins was a New York Times #1 bestseller and a Reese’s Book Club pick. It has been translated into more than 30 languages and sold over one million copies.
The book’s full synopsis reads: “Evie Porter has everything a nice Southern girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence, a tight group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist.
“The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.

Williamson, of course, wrote Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Faculty, in addition to creating the hit shows “Dawson’s Creek,” “The Vampire Diaries,” and “The Following.” He directs Scream 7, in theaters February 26.
